SO WHAT’S THE REAL STORY WITH ESTROGEN, PROGESTERONE AND BREAST CANCER?

First... we're told that Estrogen is good for you but you should take it just long enough to get you through the symptoms of Menopause then you must stop it.

Then the Women's Health Initiative came out and they put the fear of all things holy in women around the world. They're screaming from the rooftops, "don't take Estrogen.. it'll give you breast cancer." Then we hear, "well...hold on.. we think we may have been wrong about all that." Turns out that it wasn't Estrogen that was increasing a women's risk of getting breast cancer. It was actually the progesterone that provoked breast cancer so the medical community started warning women to stay away from progesterone.

So, what's a girl to do? Is Estrogen our friend and Progesterone the enemy?

But what the medical community misunderstood was that it wasn't progesteron that wreaking the havoc. It was, in fact, Medroxyprogesterone, which is a type of medicine called a progestogen. They are similar to the natural hormone progesterone but is not progesterone. Medroxyprogesterone is more recognizably known by it's brand names Progestin or Provera. Also commonly known as Depo-Provera in its injectable form.

Medroxyprogesterone increases the risk of breast cancer by 8 to 9 times over baseline simply by blocking progesterone. An article published in Circulation back in 2007 documented an increase in breast cancer with Premarin (synthetic estrogen) and Provera.

The Women's Health Iniative provided the most powerful medical study to date proving that estrogen alone did not increase the risk of breast cancer. It also showed that natural progesterone stimulates the growth and spread of the breast cancer resistance protein or BCRP. It also showed that the combination of estradiol and progesterone increase the the BCRP production more than progesterone alone.

In short, (1) Estrogen does NOT cause cancer (2) Progestins tend to provoke cancer (3) Natural progesterone protects against cancer.

Our bodies need hormones. Without them the body begins to deteriorate and become unhealthy. If we want to be healthy, we need to restore the natural hormones that are lost due to age.
